2012 Regina Bull Sale & Show General Rules & Regulations
Please read the General Rules and Regulations carefully. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to read and follow these rules. Any person not adhering to these rules and regulations faces disciplinary action from Regina Bull Sale.
ENTRY FEES AND COMMISSION
- All entries for Regina Bull Sale must be returned to Regina Bull Sale by entry closing date. This MUST include copies of Registration Papers, Footnotes or Pictures desired, and Payment. Any entries not returned by entry closing date or returned incomplete will be considered VOID.
- An entry fee of $100.00 plus GST will be charged for each bull entered.
- A charge of 5% commission will be retained by Regina Bull Sale from the final sale price of every bull. This will include passed bulls.
- All outstanding accounts with Regina Bull Sale must be paid in full before current years entries will be accepted.
- To assist Regina Bull Sale, consignors are encouraged to help attract new, potential sponsors. Regina Bull Sale will pay 30% commission on any new sponsorship brought forward by consignors to a maximum of $40.00 per bull entered. All sales must be pre-approved by Regina Bull Sale prior to contact with the potential sponsor. This will help eliminate duplicate proposals to the same sponsors. ENTRIES
- The consignor must be the registered owner of the bull entered. There is no limit to the number of entries per consignor but Regina Bull Sale does reserve the right to restrict the number of entries if circumstances arise. If entries have already been made prior to the limiting of entries, entry fees will be refunded for the limited entries.
- All bulls entered MUST be registered purebred animals. Any animals seen by Regina Bull Sale as not purebred will be removed from the barns.
CATALOGUE AND SALE ORDER
- Regina Bull Sale will provide a sale catalogue prior to sale. It will contain as much of the pedigree of the animals entered as is practical. Footnotes and photos will be allowed. Regina Bull Sale reserves the right to edit footnotes as required without notice to the consignor. Please ensure that photos submitted are of professional quality. Regina Bull Sale reserves the right to remove photos which are deemed to be inappropriate or of very poor quality. A bad photo is worse than no photo!
- One photo of each entered bull is accepted for a fee of $10.00 per bull. Two additional photos per consignor (of dams, people, etc.) are accepted at a fee of $25.00 per photo. Consignors with 10 or more bulls entered may also submit an additional two photos at a fee of $25.00 per photo.
- Current EPD’s will be printed in the catalogue as obtained from the Registration Papers where available. Performance information (BW, 205, 365) will also be printed as provided by the seller. Performance data should be submitted in the standardized format of 205 or 365 or the date of weighing as supplied.
- Footnotes will be allowed in the sale catalogue to a maximum of 75 words for a fee of $10.00 per footnote. Footnotes are optional. Regina Bull Sale reserves the right to edit footnotes should the footnote be deemed inappropriate, too long, or grammatically incorrect.
- Breed order for the 2012 Regina Bull Sale will be: Limousin, Black Angus, Red Angus, Simmental, Charolais, Hereford, All Other Breeds. These will rotate each year with the breed that sold last the previous year selling first the present year. Black and Red Angus will rotate as one breed but will sell and show separately.
- The order of the sale within breeds will be that of the first surname or farm name that appears on the registration paper unless otherwise approved by Regina Bull Sale. The alphabet will divided into four sections: A to E, F to K, L to Q and R to Z. The letters within these four groups will also be rotated. Both these will rotate each year with the section/letter that sold last the previous year selling first the present year. The following letters will be rotated as one: IJ, PQ, UVW, XYZ.
- The 2012 order of rotation will be as follows: (E,A,B,C,D), (K,F,G,H,I,J) (PQ,L,M,N,O) (XYZ,R,S,T,UVW) .
- Champions of each breed will start their breed sale. The consignor of the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion have the option to sell the remainder off their string of bulls immediately following the sale of the Champion or in regular sale order as appears in the catalogue. The Division Champions and Reserve Division Champions will sell next (Senior then Junior) at the owners options. Or they may stay sell in their regular catalogue order. The consignors Division Champions will sell as a single animal. The remainder of the consignors string must sell in the order they appear in the catalogue.
- A consignor will sell all bulls on the first round. Entries will be catalogued in the order that is stated on the entry form but bulls do not need to sell in this order.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
- Regina Bull Sale will be working with Saskatchewan Cattle Breeders’ Association. The committee reserves the right to deny entry to any member of the association if in their opinion, any rule has been violated. Any consignor contributing animals to this show and sale agrees to these rules and regulations.
- No animal shall be accepted for entry which is not the property of a member of the Saskatchewan Cattle Breeders’ Association and a present resident of Saskatchewan. If a consignor is not a member of the Saskatchewan Cattle Breeder’ ‘Association, the annual membership fee of $10.00 for the association will be taken off of the consignor’s settlement cheque and forwarded to the association.
- Regina Bull Sale representatives shall have entire charge of the animals on grounds. This includes but is not limited to stable accommodations and routine. The representatives instructions must be implicitly obeyed by all owners and attendants. Any persons not following these instructions will be asked to leave the barns. It is to be understood that Regina Bull Sale and Sale Management assume no liability for these animals; however, reasonable precautions will be undertaken by the committee and its employees.
- Bulls sold for export must pass health tests which will be done post sale at the cost of the consignor. Health tests will completed by consignors own veterinarian. It is the consignor’s responsibility to arrange for testing and transportation back to the purchaser. If a consignor does not wish to have their bulls available for export, they must notify management prior to sale.
- All animals entered in Regina Bull Sale MUST be the property of the consignor by date of entry.
- Animals with mange, ringworm, actinomycosis (lump jaw), warts, or any other infectious disease status SHOULD NOT be brought to sale. Any dispute over a bull’s health will be settled by the Regina Bull Sale veterinarian at the consignors expense. THESE CONDITIONS JEOPARDIZE THE STATUS OF ALL BULLS.
- Animals not properly entered or accepted will not be allowed on grounds.
- Sale of part ownership of bulls will not be permitted except for semen interests. However, full possession of bull must sell. All transactions will be complete and registration certificates will be transferred to buyer immediately following the sale. The privilege and power of withdrawing an animal from the sale at anytime shall rest solely with Regina Bull Sale. All bull entered must be offered for sale in the ring. A consignor of a bull(s) not sold and passed through the ring will be required to pay commission on the floor price set by Regina Bull Sale.
- Bulls will be accepted for sale with a minimum age of 12 months by April 30, 2011. Bulls can be no older the five years by March 1, 2011 with the exception of Hereford and Simmental which may not be older the 39 months.
- Bulls of all breeds, with the exception of Charolais and Simmental, must have a minimum weight requirement of 2 lbs per day. This rule applies to all bulls two years old or younger as of Jan 1, 2011. Bulls must meet their Canadian Association standards.
- Weight Requirements
- Charolais – minimum weight for 12 months = 1050lbs
- 12 to 24 months must have 1.7 lbs WPDA
- Simmental – minimum weight for 12 months = 3 lbs per day
- 12 to 24 months must have 1.75 lbs WPDA and an added pound per day for every day over 2 years old
iii. Angus, Hereford, Limousin and All Other Breeds yearlings – minimum weight of 1000 lbs.
- After the sale, all transferred registration papers will be sent to the buyers. The cost of the transfer is the responsibility of the seller.
- Every animal must be in good health, free from physical defects and shall have a registration certificate issued according to the by-laws of the Canada Pedigree Act. The tattoo of every animal must be distinct, easily readable and must coincide exactly with what is provided on the registration paper.If the tattoo of an animal does not match or the tattoo is deemed illegible, the animal will be removed from the sale.Any tattoo deemed to be indistinct will be re-tattooed upon processing at a penalty charge of $40.00. If permission is being sought to re-tattoo a bull (at home) and the bull is entered in Regina Bull Sale, it is requested that the registrations papers be sent to Regina Bull Sale and a letter of permission be sent to the Canadian Livestock Records Corporation or associated Canadian Breed Office.
- Consignors or their agents are responsible for feeding and watering their animals from time of arrival in the barns until the evening of the last day of the sale. This includes after the animal passes the sale ring up to the point of release from the barns. Contributors will be solely responsible for the delivery of the animal for the purchaser following the sale.
- Regina Bull Sale retains the right to cull any bull which, in their opinion, lacks the quality of Regina Bull Sale. Consignors may be required to lead bulls out of the stall for inspection by Regina Bull Sale. Any bulls failing inspection by Regina Bull Sale will be barred from the sale and asked to leave the barn.
- Consignors will be held responsible for any erroneous information regarding animals entered that may appear in the printed catalogue of any sale held by Regina Bull Sale, unless written notice of such error is filed with Regina Bull Sale one week prior to the commencement of the sale.
- All bulls selling must have passed a current (within 30 days of sale) semen evaluation. The original semen test must be presented at weigh in. Scrotal measurements will be taken from the semen evaluation. Any bulls whose testicles do not measure according to the following scale will be culled from the sale. Measurements will be posted.

- All animals must be supplied with a good halter and neck rope for the duration of and after sale. Where suitable halter and/or neck rope are not provided, they will be purchased by Regina Bull Sale and a $10.00 levy will be charged to the consignor and taken from their final settlement cheque.
- Tampering with bulls to hide physical defects is prohibited. This includes surgical alteration, coloration of any hair, or any other practice which might misrepresent the animal’s true physical characteristics. Offenders will be subject to penalties imposed at the discretion of Regina Bull Sale.
- Consignors found processing or administering tranquilizers to bulls, after arrival in barns, without express permission of the Regina Bull Sale veterinarian will be immediately culled from the sale and asked to leave the barns.
- The use of graphite is barred from Regina Bull Sale.
- Material used to elevate the front feet of the bulls will be restricted so that feet will be elevated no greater than 6” from the barn floor. Once in place, this material cannot be removed.
- All bulls must be in the barns and must be weighed, checked and tagged by 12:00 noon, Friday, March 9, 2012. Bulls may be processed 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 8 and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Friday, March 9. No bulls will be allowed in the barns before 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 8. Tie outs will be provided at the current rate ($45.00 per 12’ X 12’ pen). A letter will be forwarded to all consignors after entries close with a detailed schedule. Any updates or changes to requirements will be noted at that time.
- All bulls entered (yearlings and two year olds) must have rings in their noses. Humbugs will not be accepted. There will be a $50.00 charge for each bull not having a ring in their nose. Substitute two year old bulls must be ringed. The ringing of substitute yearling bulls is discretionary, but as a minimum any substitute yearling bull must have a humbug. Consignors of unringed substitute yearling bulls will be responsible for leaving a humbug with the bull for delivery purposes.
- There will be no resale of bulls once passed through the sale ring.
- A semen interest may be retained by the consignor; however, full possession of the bull must sell. Intentions should be stated at time of entry and will be printed in the sale catalogue. Regina Bull Sale will assume no responsibility regarding disputes when semen interests are retained and all negotiations will be between buyer and seller.
- Substitutions – Any bull may be substituted, up to processing time, PROVIDED it meets all requirements for entry. Registration papers and signed transfers for substituted MUST be in office before bulls are processed at sale time.
BREEDING GARANTEE
- Should a bull, under natural service conditions in the opinion of the purchaser, be a non-breeder, the purchaser shall report the same in writing to the Regina Bull Sale Committee between two and six months from the date of sale. The purchaser shall then complete a statutory declaration supplied by the committee. The purchaser may be required to retain the bull for six months after this period. The consignor shall have the option of testing the animal for four months on his own premises. If the animal then proves to be a non-breeder, the consignor will refund 100% of the purchase or supply an animal of approximate age, quality and breeding to the purchaser. The non-breeder will be returned to the consignor. A consignor will not be responsible for injury or sickness which was not apparent at the sale, or for improper care and feeding by the purchaser. In either case the purchaser is to be responsible for all transportation charges incurred. In cases of dispute, a vertrinarian’s certificate will be required to be supplied by the purchaser (this garantee is not in effect if other insurance is in effect at the time). This breeding agreement is in effect on the North American Continent only.
