 PLEASE READ THIS LETTER AND THE RULES AND REGULATIONS CAREFULLY.
Enclosed are entry forms and the rules and regulations for the 2010 Regina Bull Sale.

Entries must be postmarked no later than JANUARY 6, 2010. Late entries may not be accepted. Please use a separate entry form for each contributor. More entry forms may be obtained by photocopying, contacting the office at

NEW FOR 2009 – 2010

  • Sale Day has moved to Sunday, March 14.
  • Commission will be paid on new ad sales in the catalogue (see point #6).
  • Again in 2010 the RBS will be leasing the facility through Canadian Western Agribition. Agribition will assume responsibility for the food services and facility.
  • Entry fees and sale commission remain the same as 2009. The processing fee will be $30/bull. Note that the Entry fee goes only to sale costs; show costs are covered by sponsors.
  • Show Judge for 2010 will be Barry Young, Carievale, SK
  • Show – Group classes will begin each show, followed by single animals.
  • Additional pictures (other than actual lots) will be allowed in the catalogue; see note below.
  • Ultrasound will be done on a cost recovery basis. On farm ultrasound testing is accepted, but must be done within 30 days of the sale date and by a licensed technician.
  • Check out the web site at www.reginabullsale.com for recent news and email links to management and committee members.

REGISTRATION PAPERS WITH SIGNED TRANSFERSmust accompany your entries. Photocopies or web copies will secure your entries, but if registrations are not in the hands of management by sale time the entries will be canceled and the entry fee will not be refunded.

TIMES - ALL BULLS, from ALL BREEDS, must be in the barns by6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11 and must be weighed, checked and tagged. Bulls may be weighed and tagged from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 11. No bulls will be allowed in the barns before 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 10. Tie outs will be provided (fee included in the entry fee). A letter will be forwarded to all consignors after entries close with a detailed schedule and other information - updates or changes to requirements will be noted at that time.

SEMEN TESTING - All bulls selling in the Regina Bull Sale must have passed a current (within 30 days) semen evaluation. The original semen test must be presented at weigh-in. Scrotal measurements will be taken from the semen test. There are no refunds of entry fees for decision deferred semen tests.

FOOTNOTES - Footnotes are allowed and are billed at cost. Official performance data will be printed at no charge. We encourage you to use this service.

Pictures – Each consignor is allowed one photo of the actual bull at a cost of $10/lot; Additional photos (of dams, etc.) are allowed at $25 each to a maximum of two per consignor. Consignors having a minimum of 10 bulls will be allowed two additional photos at $25/photo.

FARM/RANCH SIGNS - All consignors should have a Regina Bull Sale farm or ranch sign. If you do not already have one, we will purchase it on your behalf. Please provide the following information on a separate sheet: FARM/HERD NAME, BREED, FAMILY NAME, ADDRESS (Purchase price - $50.00 + GST 3.00 = 53.00).

Individual stall cards for identification of each animal are provided by RBS at no charge and are not the same as your RBS farm/ranch sign. Personalized farm signs that you may be using at other events are not allowed.

SHOW - Show order will follow by breed the same order as the sale. Breed reps organize the splits.

SEMEN INTERESTS may be retained by the contributor; however, full possession of the bull must sell. Intentions should be stated at time of entry and will be printed in the sale catalogue. Regina Bull Sale will assume no responsibility regarding disputes when semen interests are retained by the contributor and all negotiations will be between the buyer and seller. Semen collection shall be at the convenience of the buyer.

FLOOR PRICE - Floor prices for 2010 are set at $2000 for yearling bulls and $2400 for two year old bulls. Commission will be charged on the floor prices for passed bulls.

CENTRALIZED TRUCKING SERVICE - The Regina Bull Sale will again be offering this service. This service provides buyers with delivery to a central point (up to 500 km) within Canada for $75/bull, with a maximum cost of $300 for buyers who purchase multiple bulls. Other destinations will be arranged by the RBS committee and charged at cost. Sellers are responsible for being sure their bulls are correctly loaded or looked after post sale.

ENTRY FEES AND COMMISSION

  •   All entries for the sale must be in the hands of the Sale Management by the closing date, together with pedigrees and transfers and complete information for the catalogue.
  • An entry fee of $100 + $5.00 GST = $105.00 is charged for each entry. Entry fees are due in full at time of entry for the first three bulls ($315); any entries above that can be paid by a postdated cheque payable sale day and received with the entry forms. The entry fee is applied to sale costs and the entry fee will not be refunded on an animal once it has been catalogued.
  • A charge of 5.5% will be retained by the Regina Bull Sale of the amount realized from the sale of each bull (including passed bulls), in addition to the entry fee, to meet advertising, auctioneering and other expenses. An additional commission will be deducted from the sale of bulls by breed where required and turned over to the respective breed association.
  • A processing fee of $30/bull will be charged.
  • All outstanding accounts with the Regina Bull Sale must be paid in full before current year entries will be processed.
  • To assist Regina Bull Sale consignors and encourage more sponsorship, the RBS committee has decided to pay commission on advertising in the sale catalogue. Each consignor selling and turning in ad material will receive 30% of the sponsorship in addition to their payout cheques for the 2010 RBS sales to a maximum of $40 per bull entry.

All sales must be pre-approved through Candace By, 306/584-7937. The committee has been working on advertising for some time and committee members who have handled them in the past have already spoken for businesses. By going through the secretary, RBS will ensure more than one person will not approach a business.

ENTRIES

7. A contributor is the registered owner of a bull whether individual or partnership. There is no limit on the number of entries per consignor. The executive of the Bull Sale Committee does reserve the right to restrict the number of entries if in their opinion the total number of entries or the number from one contributor is too large for the good of the sale. In this case they may cancel a certain number, where upon the entry fee will be refunded.

 CATALOGUE AND ORDER OF SALE

 8. Animal information - The committee will issue a suitable catalogue before the sale and it will contain as much of the pedigree of the animals as is practical. Footnotes and professional quality pictures of entered bulls are allowed. Two additional photos (of dams, people, etc.) are allowed at $25/each. Consignors with 10 or more bulls are allowed an additional two photos at $25/photo.

Current EPD’s will be printed in the catalogue at no charge (as obtained from the animal’s pedigree) where available. Performance information (BW, 205, 365,) will also be printed at no charge if supplied by the seller and should be submitted in the standardized format of 205 and 365 or the date of weighing supplied.

9. The breed order of the sale for 2010 will be Red Angus, Simmental, Charolais, Hereford, Limousin, Angus and other breeds. The order of the sale will be that of the firstsurname or farm name that appears on the registration paper unless otherwise approved by the committee. The alphabet is divided into four sections: A to E; F to K; L to Q; and R to Z; and these will rotate each year with the section that is sold last one year, selling first the next and the letters in each section shall also be rotated. The following will be considered as one letter: IJ, PQ, UVW, XYZ.

The entries for 2010 will be catalogued as follows: (M,N,O,PQ,L,), (S,T,UVW,XYZ,R,), (B,C,D,E,A,), and (G,H,IJ,K,F). Champions of each breed will start their breed sale. The contributor of the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion have the option of selling the balance of his/her string of bulls immediately following the sale of the Champion or in regular sale order as listed in the catalogue. The Division Champions and Division Reserve Champions will sell next (Senior to Junior) at the owners option, or they may sell in their regular catalogue order. The Division Champions and Reserves will be offered only as a single animal and their string will not move to the front of the sale.

10. A contributor will sell all animals on the first round and entries will be catalogued in the order listed on the entry form, but it is not necessary to sell in this order.

 RULES & REGULATIONS

 11. The management will be working with the Regina Bull Sale Committee of the Saskatchewan Cattle Breeder’s Association. The committee reserves the right to deprive any member of the association from the privilege of selling cattle at this sale if, in their opinion, any rule has been violated. Every person who contributes an animal to the show or sale, by so doing, agrees to these terms and conditions.

12. The committee’s representatives shall have entire charge of all animals on the grounds, stable accommodation, and routine, and their instructions must be implicitly obeyed by all owners and attendants. It is to be understood that the Regina Bull Sale and the sale managers assume no liability for the bulls; however, reasonable precautions will be undertaken by the committee and its employees.

13. ATTENTION RE EXPORT: Bulls sold for export would have to pass health tests which would be done post sale. If you do not wish to have your bulls available for export, you must contact the office prior to the sale.

Animals with mange, ringworm, actinomycosis (lump jaw), warts, or any other infectious or contagious disease status should not be brought to the sale. Any dispute over a bull’s condition will be settled by the RBS veterinarian at the seller’s expense. These conditions jeopardize the status of all the bulls.

14. All animals entered at the Regina Bull Sale must be owned by the contributor by date of entry.

15. No animal shall be accepted for entry which is not the property of a member of the SK Cattle Breeders’ Association and a resident of Saskatchewan. The annual membership fee for the SK Cattle Breeders Assoc. ($10) will be deducted from the seller’s settlement cheque, and forwarded to the SK Cattle Breeders.

16. Animals not properly entered or accepted will not be allowed on the grounds.

17. Sale of part ownership of a bull will not be permitted except for semen interests. However, full possession of the bull must sell. All transactions will be complete and registration certificates transferred to the buyer. The privilege and power of withdrawing an animal from the sale at anytime shall rest solely with the Executive Committee. All bulls entered in the sale must be offered for sale in the ring. A contributor of a bull(s) not sold and passed through the Regina Bull Sale, will be required to pay the commission on the floor price.

18. Bulls will be accepted for sale with a minimum age of 12 months at April 30. Bulls can be no older than five years by March 1 prior to the sale, except Hereford and Simmental which cannot be older than 39 months by sale time.

19. Bulls of all breeds, with the exception of Charolais and Simmental breeds, must have minimum weight requirement of 2 lbs. per day. This rule applies up to current 2 year old bulls born January 1 or after. Bulls must meet their Canadian Assoc. standards.

Weight requirements:

Charolais - minimum wt for 12 months - 1050 lbs.; from 12 to 24 months, must have a 1.7 lbs. WPDA

Simmental -minimum wt for 12 months - 3 lbs./day ; from 12 to 24 months, must have a 1.75 lbs. WPDA and an added

1 lb. per day for the number of days over 2 years of age.

Angus, Hereford, Limousin, Gelbvieh and all other breed yearlings - must have a minimum weight of 1000 lbs.

 

20. After the sale, the transferred, registered pedigree will be sent to the purchaser. The cost of the transfer fee is paid by the seller.

21. Every animal must be in good health, free from physical defects, and shall have a registration certificate issued according to the by-laws of the Canada Pedigree Act. The tattoo letters must be distinct and easily readable and must coincide exactly with the registration paper or the animal will be rejected from the sale. If any bulls arrive at the sale with illegible tattoos, they will be rejected immediately from the sale. Any indistinct tattoos will be re-tattooed upon entry by the owner at a penalty charge of $40.00. If permission is being sought to re-tattoo a bull (at home) and the bull is entered in the Regina Bull Sale it is requested that the pedigree be sent on to the Regina Bull sale Office, and a letter for permission be sent to the Canadian Livestock Records corporation, Ottawa, or associated Canadian Breed Office.

22. Contributors, or their agents, are responsible for feeding and watering their animals from time of arrival in the barns until the evening of the last day of the entire sale and shall assist in delivering an animal to the purchaser during time of sale, if so directed by the Sale Committee.

23. The RBS Committee retains the right to cull any bull which, in their opinion, lacks Regina Bull Sale quality. Contributors may be required to lead bulls out of the stall for inspection and any bulls failing to pass inspection will be barred from the sale.

24. Contributors will be held responsible for any erroneous information respecting animals entered that may appear in the printed catalogue of any sale held by this committee, unless written notice of such error is filed with the secretary one week prior to the commencement of such sale.

25. All bulls selling must have passed a current (within 30 days) semen evaluation. The original semen test must be presented at weigh-in. Scrotal measurements will be taken from the semen evaluation. Any bulls whose testicles do not measure according to the following will be culled from the sale. Measurements will be posted.

Herefords: Yearlings - 32 cm; others required to have 34 cm.
Limousin : Yearlings - 30 cm; 18 months - 31 cm; 2 year olds - 32 cm.
Salers: Yearlings - 30 cm; 14 months - 31 cm; 2 year olds - 34 cm.

26. All animals must be supplied with a good halter and neck rope for the duration and after the sale. Where a suitable halter and/or rope are not provided, same will be purchased by the Committee and a $10 levy will be charged to the contributor.

27. Tampering with bulls to hide physical defects is prohibited. This includes surgical alteration, coloration of hair or any other practice which might misrepresent the animal’s true physical characteristics. Offenders will be subject to penalties imposed at the discretion of the committee.

28. Contributors found possessing or administering tranquilizers to bulls after arrival at the barns without the express permission of the association veterinarian will be rejected from the sale.

29. The use of graphite is barred from the Regina Bull Sale.

30. Material used to elevate the front feet of the bulls will be restricted so that the feet will be elevated no greater than 6” from the barn floor and this material cannot be removed once in place.

31. ALL BULLS, from ALL BREEDS, must be in the barns by 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, and must be weighed, checked, and tagged. Bulls may be weighed and tagged from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Wednesday, March 10 and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11. No bulls will be allowed in the barns before 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 10. One re-weigh is permitted, in which case the second weight MUST be accepted. Intention to re-weigh MUST be stated immediately.

32. ALL ENTERED BULLS MUST HAVE RINGS IN THEIR NOSES (humbugs are not acceptable) for both two year olds and yearlings. There will be a $50 charge for each bull not having a ring in his nose. Substitute two year old bulls must be ringed. The ringing of substitute yearling bulls is discretionary, but as a minimum any substitute yearling bull must have a humbug. Consignors of unringed substitute yearling bulls will be responsible for leaving a humbug with the bull for delivery purposes.

33. There will be no resale of bulls once passed through the sale.

34. A semen interest may be retained by the contributor; however, full possession of the bull must sell. Intentions should be stated at time of entry and will be printed in the sale catalogue. Regina Bull Sale will assume no responsibility regarding disputes when semen interests are retained and all negotiations will be between the buyer and seller.

35. Substitutions -any bull may be substituted, up to processing time, PROVIDING it meets ALL the requirements for entry. Registration papers and signed transfers for substitutes MUST be in the office before bulls are processed (weighed, etc.) at sale time.

 

BREEDING GUARANTEE
36. Should a bull, under natural service conditions in the opinion of the purchaser, be a non-breeder, the purchaser shall report the same in writing to the secretary of the Bull Sale Committee between two and six months form the date of sale. The purchaser shall then complete a statutory declaration supplied by the committee. The purchaser may be required to retain the bull for six months and after this period, the contributor shall have the option of testing the animal for four months on his own premises. If the animal then proves to be a non-breeder, the contributor will refund 100% of the purchase or supply an animal of approximate age, quality, and breeding, and the non-breeder be returned to the contributor. A contributor will not be responsible for injury, infection or sickness which was not apparent at the time of sale, or for improper care and feeding by the purchaser. In either case the purchaser is to be responsible for all transportation charges incurred. In cases of dispute, a veterinarian’s certificate will be required to be supplied by the purchaser (this guarantee is not in effect, if other insurance is in effect at the time). This breeding guarantee is in effect on the North American continent only.
